Nella Pruss: “We call on for more active interaction among projects of our schools and the UNESCO Chairs”

On December 14-15 in St. Petersburg the Third All-Russian Congress of UNESCO Chairs, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Organization took place at “Gornyi”, the National University of Mineral resources.  

Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director-General, V. Fortov, the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, A. Khoroshilov, the Acting Head of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, Inga Nishanyan, the Senior Programme Assistant at UNESCO Secretariat (UNITWIN / UNESCO Chairs), Mintimer Shaimiev, the State Counselor of the Republic of Tatarstan, G. Ordzhonikidze, the Executive Secretary of the Commission for UNESCO in the Russian Federation, N. Pruss, the National Coordinator of the Project “UNESCO Associated Schools”, Rector of the University of Management “TISBI”, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, members of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, managers and employees of Russian UNESCO Chairs, as well as regional co-ordinators and project participants of ASPnet. The Congress held three round-table meeting: education; natural and engineering sciences and the environment; socio-cultural issues and communication took part in the congress.

Grigory Ordzhonikidze, the Executive Secretary of the Russian National Commission for UNESCO, read a greeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to the participants of the congress.

In her speech, Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, spoke about her meeting with Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, on the eve of the IV International Cultural Forum in Saint Petersburg. "I am grateful to Putin for the support and attention he gives to UNESCO, - said Irina Bokova. - It's a pledge for future fruitful cooperation”.

Nella Pruss, the National Coordinator of  “UNESCO Associated Schools” project in the Russian Federation, the Head of the International UNESCO Chair, Rector of the University of Management “TISBI” spoke about the interaction of the UNESCO Associated Schools and UNESCO Chairs, presenting best practices. The cooperation between UNESCO Chairs and Associated Schools opens the oppertunity to actively develop processes of regionalization, combining human resources, innovation, intellectual and other resources of partners in the implementation of ideas and mission of UNESCO” - said Mrs. Pruss, proposing to continue the exchange of ideas and experiences in regional cooperation in the implementation of joint projects. She explained that "the idea of inclusive education really takes its real place in the educational process only if it occupies the minds of lecturers and professors and will become an integral part of their professional thinking."

Andrei Krasilnikov, the Chairman of the Board of the movement; Alexandra Ochirova, a co-chairman of the movement, the Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, a poet and a philosopher; Zurab Tsereteli, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, presented awards to the activists of the movement, including the Rector of the University of Management "TISBI, Professor Nella Pruss.

The Congress summed up the work of the Russian Network of UNESCO Chairs and stressed the need to fully extend the cooperation of UNESCO Chairs on the regular experience exchange basis in the field of research, science, education, harmonization of plans and programs, the creation of research teams and working groups, carrying out joint projects with the publication of their results in Internet sites and portals, organization of joint conferences and workshops, under the guidance of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO and the Coordination Committee of UNESCO Chairs of the Russian Federation in order to implement strategic priorities of UNESCO.


The Congress elected a new Coordinating Council of UNESCO Chairs the member of which became Nella Pruss.


The Congress, which usually takes place behind closed doors, with the participation of UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, this time was held in the open mode and gathered 34 participants of a high level panel discussion. It was attended by Director General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, the Nobel Prize in Physics Zhores Alferov, the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Ftorov, the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli, the Executive secretary of the Russian National Commission for UNESCO Grigory Ordzhonikidze, St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko, the State Advisor of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, a member of the Russian National Commission for UNESCO, the Director General of JSC "FosAgro" Andrey Guriev, Rector of the University of Management “TISBI” Nella Pruss, scientists, members of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Secretary General for UN.
