In Kazan, under the auspices of UNESCO, the largest international conference on inclusive education with the participation of experts from 13 countries is taking place

 

On May 15 the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Learning and living together”: modern strategies of education for persons with disabilities” opened at the University of Management “TISBI”, which has a rich practice of training students with disabilities for more than 17 years.

The conference is attended by representatives of the Russian Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education, 35 foreign representatives from Armenia, Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, UK, Gambia, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Philippines. The Forum brought together more than 350 specialists from abroad and 30 cities of Russia.

 

 

Welcome from the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov to the participants of the conference was read out by the Assistant to the President on Social Affairs Tatiana Larionova. She noted that today 58,000 disabled people live in the Republic of Tatarstan, and the idea of equal access to education for all categories of persons, regardless of their social status and health through the development and questions of inclusion is put into practice.

 

Oleg Smolin, the deputy of the State Duma, the First Deputy Chairman of the Education Committee, the First Vice-President of Paralympics Committee of the Russian Federation was present as a guest of honor at the conference. He said: “By working for more than 20 years in the Russian parliament, I 'm trying to make our authorities understand one principled thought: people with disabilities, especially those who are educated, are not just a category of people who need social support, they are a part of the human potential of our country. Suffice it to recall the incredible success of our country's Paralympics team at the World Olympics in Sochi”.

 


Grigory Ordzhonikidze, the Executive Secretary of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, said that today the main thing is to find answer to the question how to ensure the full participation of persons with disabilities in all spheres of the society, to improve the quality of their life and education.

Virginia Simmons,
Director of Adult and Community Education, Horry County Schools (USA) expressed concern about the situation of people with disabilities who are in the minority, and who do not always have the opportunity to speak out, so the challenge for today is to speak on behalf of these people.

 


In the first part of the plenary session, reports were also given by Rimma Ratnikova, the Deputy Chairman of the Republic of Tatarstan State Council, the Chairman of the Union of Journalists of the RT, Rafis Burganov, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Lyudmila Andreeva, the Deputy Head of the Municipality, Danil Mustafin, the First Deputy Minister on Education and Science of the Republic of Tatartsan, Kapka Panayotova, the leader of the movement of people with disabilities and advocate for human rights in Bulgaria.
